Information

This was Yngwie Malmsteen's first solo album.  After feeling too limited in his previous bands Steeler and Alcatrazz he decided to go solo.  This album has mind-blowing guitar arrangements, that none of his other albums have seemed to have.  On this album there are only two songs with singing (THANK GOD!).  Yngwie's singers on the album are horrible, and the lyrics Yngwie writes for them are awful.

As far as his method goes, most of Yngwie's arrangements are based on the harmonic minor scale.  In some of the songs, Yngwie will play short arrangements based in the major scale, but I could only find several licks based in the minor scale.

His obsessive use of the harmonic minor scale makes some of his licks nearly impossible.  Most guitarists are most familiar with the minor or major scale.  In harmonic minor the one-and-a-half step intervals between some notes, really make you spread your fingers out.

Incredibly fast alternate picking, and sometimes tremolo picking, are a necessity for playing Yngwie's music.  Do not attempt to play any of these songs if you can not pick very fast, because in none of the songs, does he ever pick slowly.

Learning Yngwie's style is beneficial to anyone that plays guitar.  The most noticeable benefit of learning Yngwie's style, is the increase of your speed.  After learning Yngwie's songs, you will realize that other songs that incorporated incredibly fast playing, are not so hard anymore.
